Location: Bhogpur is a small hilly village with 16 families situated at an altitude of 3000 feet above MSL. The houses in the area are scattered and face acute shortage of water round the year. The economy of the village is purely dependent on agriculture. Agriculture is practiced on small terraces and manually. The area faces many problems including lack of health, educational, infrastructure and communication facilities. Work: The village is being developed as a model village. Volunteers will, therefore, work on various works undertaken in the village like, water tanks, check dam, irrigation ponds etc. Besides the physical works they will also have time to educate them for general awareness on health, hygiene and sanitation. Accommodation: Volunteers will live in the village under basic conditions. Asian squat type toilet will be available. Vegetarian food will be served. A cook will be there but volunteers are expected to help him and occasionally cook their own meals and self-management is required. Sleeping bags are also necessary. Leisure time: Self organized city tours and excursions. Old Sikh and Hindu temples in the near vicinity can be visited. Nearby Kasauli town is another hill station as a tourist attraction. A visit to Chandigarh city will offer an opportunity to see famous Rock Garden. International Terminal: New Delhi (320 Kms); Domestic Terminal: Chandigarh and Shimla (70 kms) Nearest railway station: Kalka (30 kms) Participation Fee: 200 Euro (14,000 Indian Rupees). The participants are required to pay the fee in Indian rupees in cash on the first day of their arrival in the workcamp.
