Description: Project: Mbuye is a rural community about 75 kms east of Bujumbura, the capital. It is on the plateau and is cooler than Bujumbura. It is well known for cheese making. Work: volunteers will undertake environmental jobs, cleaning roads and tidying the place. They will also have cultural interaction with the local people and visit some of them in their homes. ABSV is quite a new association and by attending a camp in Burundi you will be helping the development of voluntary service in a poor country which has recently emerged from conflict. Orientation: THERE WILL BE AN ORIENTATION ON THE OPENING DATE SHOWN. VOLUNTEERS SHOULD THEREFORE ARRIVE 1 DAY EARLIER. Accommodation: at a local youth centre. Food: ABSV provides locally available food (there is quite a variety) and volunteers take turns to prepare this themselves. There is a chance for volunteers to showcase their own national dishes. Travel: volunteers will be met at Bujumbura airport provided ABSV is informed of the flight details. Bring a sleeping bag or roll mattress, mosquito net, plate, mug, spoon, fork.
