Description: Project: Buterere is a suburb on the edge of Bujumbura, the capital of Burundi. Most of the people are poor and the area suffers a lot from flooding when there are heavy rains. It is quite near to the airport. Work: volunteers will make bricks for families to help rebuild their homes after the flood. There will plenty of opportunity to interact with the local population. ABSV is a fairly new organisation and Burundi is now enjoying peace after years of conflict. Taking part in a workcamp here is a way of supporting the development of volunteering in this beautiful little country. Orientation: THERE WILL BE AN ORIENTATION ON THE 1ST DAY SO VOLUNTEERS SHOULD ARRIVE 1 DAY BEFORE THE START OF THE CAMP Accommodation: at a local youth centre. Food: ABSV provides locally available food (there is quite a variety) and volunteers take turns to prepare this themselves. There is a chance for volunteers to showcase their own national dishes. Travel: volunteers will be met at Bujumbura airport provifded ABSV is informed of the flight details. Bring a sleeping bag or roll mattress, mosquito net, plate, mug, spoon, fork.
