SHORT TERM VOLUNTEER WORKCAMPS
Below is the Pitaya Suwan Foundation/Greenway Thailand's program
descriptions and dates for June 2010-May 2011. Please note these are the
descriptions of our two week short term volunteer workcamps. (Monday start and
Sunday WEEK AFTER finish-14 days total). Please request the specific
workcamp information sheet for full details of each workcamp.

SONGKHLA-SOCI
The main task during this work-camp will be teaching English to local
students in the schools (or village if during the school holidays). While the
Thai education system is very formal and follow strict regulations, the
volunteers should be ready to adopt a non-formal approach and to plan nonformal
education activities (teaching through songs, games, open air activities,
etc). Also a popular yet important initiative is for volunteers to step up and
also organize workshops in English about environmental awareness, so that
the children will learn English and also increase their knowledge about their
surrounding environment. On our website, volunteers can find some
interesting material for English teaching; feel free to download before the
camp. Having said this, everyone involved considers the personal interaction,
broadening of the children's minds and the cultural exchange between both
parties more important than the actual teaching.

SINGBURI-CONS/SOCI

The main focus of this project is on practical work in the community doing
several kinds of support and development works like the construction or
renovation of village houses or school etc. The exact nature of the work will
depend of the needs of the village at the moment of the project but the
participants of the project will also experience a cultural exchange with the local
villagers.
The higher aim of this work camp is to not only contribute to the rural
development of the village, rather, it is hoped that through this work, both the
participants and the villagers come closer to each other, have fun (sanuk)
together, learn more about each other's cultures and set a good basis for future
activities and give both the participants and the local people an opportunity to
exchange their cultures and backgrounds.

AKHA-EDUC
The main aim of the project is to promote the distinct Akha culture between
international volunteers and to establish a real intercultural encounter between
the volunteers and the local people. Through common activities and free time,
the volunteers will have the possibility to learn more about the situation of
Thailand's unique hill tribes and the Akha in particular.
The main objective of the project is cultural exchange between the Volunteers
and the local villagers but the participants of the project will also practically
work in the communities doing several kinds of support and development
works, like renovation of communitarian spaces or field works and farming
with the villagers. The exact nature of the work will depend of the needs of the
village at the moment of the project. Remember that the point of the work is
primarily to build relationships with one another. So take time to socialize
and let friendships develop.
