Target group: we are looking for open-minded and cheerful volunteers who enjoy working with kids and are able to spend all their summer in a kids camp taking an active part in organizing and running different social, cultural, sport and other activities.

Duration of the project: volunteers may join the project for the whole summer period (04/06-27/08/2011) or for shorter periods of 6 weeks minimum which start on following dates:

- from 04.06.2011 + 6 weeks or more.

- from 17.07.2011 + 6 weeks.

Project: The project will be organised on the basis of summer children camp "KAKADU" - very popular summer time leisure place for kids aged from 7 to 15 years. It's situated in village Zaozernoe close to Evpatoria city on the coast of the Black Sea in the eastern Crimea.  

Work: during all summer period there will be 5 children shifts in the camp. For all this period volunteers will create and organise an intercultural exchange activities for kids involving them into the actions: intercultural evenings, exhibitions, discussions, workshops, English speaking club, concerts, games, sports competition, parties, disco etc. If you have any kind of hobby (painting, reading, photo, video, sports, blogging, making crafts, playing musical instruments etc.) there are possibilities for you to lead a group of kids in this area or to join existing groups and help in them. There will be two short term workcamps in this camp during summer and during them middle term volunteers will join the short term groups for some activities to have a great group intercultural experience! There is special staff in the camp who will help you organize and run the activities but we expect you to be self-confident and mature enough to take the responsibility. The idea of the camp is to involve Ukrainian children into an active intercultural exchange with international volunteers, to promote volunteering and to give information on who volunteer is, to widen kids outlook with new ideas for unforgettable summer!

(!) Please notice that working hours (6-8 hours a day) will depend on the camp schedule. Usually all the working groups by interests (sports, music, photo, handcrafts etc.) take place before noon, then there is lunch and siesta time to relax, and after that in the evening all big cultural events take place.  That’s why we expect volunteers to be flexible in their working schedule, be ready to adjust to it and to enjoy spending most of their time with kids :)

Accommodation and food: volunteers will be accommodated in rooms for 2. Shower and washing facilities are available in the same building. Food will be provided in the camp canteen. There is no restriction for vegetarians in this camp. Vegetarian food is available.

Leisure time: You will find the camp as the place for active leisure time with great socialising resources. Camp has different sport facilities, for example a football field, basketball and volleyball areas, tennis, swimming pools. There is a sea beach in the camp for sunbathing or swimming. On week-ends you will have time to visit city of Evpatoria or other places of interest in the Crimea and to discover its history, culture and night life. There are lots of different excursions organised for kids in the camp which you may join for free. You will have 2 days off per week. Those volunteers who will join the camp for at least 2 months or for the whole summer period will get a one-week vacation which they may spend as they wish.

What to bring: caps with peak and sunglasses, sun-protection lotion, swim suit, mosquito repellent, your own health and accident insurance.

Drums, guitars and another musical support are very welcome. Pictures, stories, CDs, art projects, installations, creative ideas, etc for the great cultural exchange!

Please take some materials, pictures, stories or anything else concerning activities of your local voluntary organizations or your own voluntary experience to share in the camp.

Requirements:

- Good level of English

- Experience in work with children is not required but welcome :)

Special requirements: Please prepare at home in advance and bring with you to the camp ideas for games and workshops for kids. It would be great if you write a few words about your ideas in your motivation letter.
