Project Description:

The project is focused on teaching English at primary and secondary schools in different villages around the Moravian village Skalice nad Svitavou. The volunteers will hold conversation-lessions for local pupils. Each class will have one hour per week as an additional lesson.

The goal of the project is to support and motivate Czech pupils to study foreign languages and to make those languages more attractive to them. The pupils can fix their current knowledge by this interactive method, making them more self-secure in actively using the language in conversations. Furthermore the project offers the possibility to be in contact with foreign people – not only for the Czech students, but also for the volunteers themselves. Last but not least the project can inspire the volunteers to organise similar projects in their home countries.

Location:

The village Skalice nad Svitavou and nearby villages. The project place is situated about 35 km north from Brno, the capital city of Moravia.

Work:

The volunteers will hold conversation lessons in English for school-children. Each day of the week you will teach at a different school in the surroundings of Skalice nad Svitavou. The topics of the lessons will be prepared by a Czech teacher, who will support the volunteer and have the responsibility for the class. The Czech teacher provides teaching methods, consultation and some material for the volunteer. 

Besides, the volunteers will hold complementary afternoon conversations with students and employed people, so called one on ones. Those conversations will be about 50 minutes long, the topics are chosen by the students.

The Volunteer will teach a maximum 6 hours per day. The weekends are off.

Food: 

You will have lunch in the school canteen. The volunteer prepares his own breakfast and dinner – all food expenses will be paid by the host organization.

Acommodation:

You will stay in Kunštát na Moravě, a neighboring village of Skalice nad Svítavou. There you will be accommodated in a school flat with standard sanitary facilities. If necessary, each volunteer will be in his own room.

Leisure time:

After work and on weekends you have the opportunity to visit sights, sports centres or take trips to the surrounding countryside. The nearest town Boskovice (11000 inhabitans) is located about 4 km from Skalice nad Svitavou (about 5 minutes by bus).There are two castles, a so-called western city and the old Jewish quarter with a Synagogue to visit. You can also relax and make some sport in two sport centrums or visit the spa. Skalice nad Svitavou is surrounded by a very nice countryside (the so-called ,,Moravský kras” area, about 30 km from Skalice nad Svitavou, with stalactite caves).

Requirements:

1        good knowledge of English (it is not necessary to be from English speaking country)

2        Experiences with teaching English are an advantage

3        Sociability and interest in working with children

4        Strong motivation to gain experiences

5        Flexibility, responsibility, patience, maturity

6        Common sense and assertiveness

7        Certificate of good conduct

8        Medical note, stating that you do not have any infectious diseases
