Location: Tornovoye, Samara region.
This country has a 400 years history. Its inhabitants used to do a beekeepind and a farming. There are a lot of picturesque landscapes. Tornovoye is situated near the "Samarskaya Luka" National Park.
Work: We will reconstruct a Well, which is situated in the territory of the National Park. You should be ready for physical work like cleaning the Well, building and construction work. You should be communicative and you will formulate some information and advertising materials.
Accommodation and food: We will live all together in a separate house or you will live at the natives. We will live in a country houses. The cold water and a toiletare near the houses. There will be Russian sauna, so it will not be inconvenient. You will cook for yourself or you will be feed a native country food by natives.
Details: We will live a real country life as it was 100-200 years ago. Wood, Russian sauna, water on the shoulder-yoke, Russian oven, goats, cows and karawais from the oven. All week long we will taste real water and real life. In the morning we will work and in the evening we will rest - sing the songs, reel-off, make national dolls; there will be excursions to the National Park and may be a ropes course.
Requirements: We are looking for ecologically responsible volunteers with strong ability to get on well with people.


W4U-17 Sacred Island-2 (Valaam island, Karelia region)

Nerehta is an old town with beautiful countryside and numerous churches, that belongs to the Kostroma region - a 5 hours' ride northeast from Moscow. A bus transfer from/to Moscow for volunteers will be organized, with a couple of excursions on the way.

Work: Volunteers will make drawing and painting on fences in any style they choose. They will also organize and lead social events related to their work( like presentations of their plots). Sometimes they will take part in repair works and do some cleaning. The final part of the project will be a small fest for all the groups who took part in the project during the year. Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in a cosy hostel-type house, 4-6 people in a room. Shower and toilet on each floor. Three delicious meals a day will be provided for participants as well.

Freetime activities: There are plenty of activities you can enjoy in your free time - from riding a bike to swimming in the pool and playing table tennis. Craft workshops will be organized on the site. You can take part in any of the numerous leisure and educational activities in the camp. You will have the opportunity to enjoy traditional Russian sauna.

Transportation: 6-8 hours by train from Moscow

 

W4U-13 "Sacred Island-1" (Valaam island, Karelia region)

Project takes place at the fantastic island of Valaam - one of the most picturesque places and beautiful monasteries in the Northwest of Russia. It is sometimes called "Mount Athos of the North". Valaam, surrounded by the archipelago of more than 50 beautiful small islands, is situated in Lake Ladoga.
During its centuries-old history, the Monastery has suffered from devastation and desolation several times. But, by God's mercy, every time it revived. Last time it recovered in atheistic Soviet Union on December 14, 1989, when a ship with six monks moored in the harbor. Since that day, the new history of Valaam began. A lot of monks live here today, some of them renovate old churches, other work in the fields. People come to help them to save cultural heritage, and due to them a lot of churches of Valaam are already renovated. A lot of pilgrims come every summer to visit Holy Earth and to help in renovation works.

Work: International volunteers will be integrated to 20-30 russian volunteers, and all together will work, eat and live. We will help monks in harvesting and cleaning the fields, grass cutting, preparing firewood and work in the garden.

Accommodation: In the dormitory (4-20 persons per room). Monastery provides beds with blankets, pillows etc. You should take working boots, gloves and clothes with you, raincoat and long skirts & kerchief for girls. The monastery provides ordinary (with meat) or vegetarian food. There're only cold water in the dormitory, shower is available twice a week.

Freetime activities: During the free time you will have a chance to enjoy nature, swim in the lake, visit different churches and temples situated in Valaam and learn about Russian orthodox culture. You can see photos of Valaam at www.valaam.ru

Other requirements: Volunteers should be patient to orthodox religion. We can only invite volunteers with the good health conditions, because monastery is quite isolated and it is hard to get to hospital in case so.

Transportation: 8-10 hours by night train to St.Petersburg, then there is a transfer to island is approximately in 220 km distance.

 


W4U-14 Mix of cultures (Petrozavodsk)

Petrozavods like St. Petersburg was found by the Piter The Great. "Mix of cultures" is an annual project that has been held since 2007. Volunteers from different countries come to organize intercultural activities for children and youth of Petrozavodsk to acquaint them with various cultures and traditions. This is a big event for all the young people of the town.
Work: International and Russian volunteers will spend 6 hours a day taking part in intercultural activities, so every participant has to be ready for non-fixed schedule. We will prepare presentations about different countries, traditions, cultures, as well as prepare workshops of various language-courses and other activities with the help of Russian volunteers and employees of centre "Initiative". A "Photo marathon" will be held- foreign and Russian volunteers will prepare photos for social photo exhibition. Foreign volunteers will also be invited to take part in a program on the radio where they will be able to talk about the project.
Accommodation Volunteers will be accommodated in host families. Breakfast will be provided by the family, lunch will be organized in a school canteen and dinner in a cafe.
Freetime activities: In order to let international volunteers get acquainted with Karelian culture and traditions, excursions to Karelian local history museum and Fine arts museum will be organized. We can also organize sport activities and games. On the weekends there is a possibility to go for a picnic out of town. Volunteers may also visit famous island Kizi.

W4U-16 Beyond the Arctic Circle (Vorkuta)

The work camp will be organized in cooperation with Komi Republic's State Institution "Social rehabilitation centre for under-aged children with less opportunities (or disabilities)".

Location: Vorkuta is town that situated on the north of Komi Republic in 140 km near the Artic Ocean beyond the Arctic Circle. There are about 100 thousand inhabitants in Vorkuta. We haven't road to Vorkuta because of climate's conditions. You can get there only by railway: two days from Moscow or one day from Syktyvkar.

Work: Our town isn't adapted for needs of disabled people. There aren't elevators ramps, lifts in Vorkuta. The volunteers will work as personal assistants for children who can't move without assistance (blind, children in wheelchairs, kids with cerebral palsy). They will help children to take part in cultural, sport and entertaining activities. Also the volunteers will help tutors in the events organized to help disabled children in social rehabilitation. Making friendship with teenagers with physical disabilities and realization creative workshops (dancing, singing, drawing...) Working time is about 4 hours per day.

Accommodation: Volunteers will be hosted in rehabilitation centre. Please, bring your sleeping bag. They will prepare the food by themselves.

Freetime activities: during the free time camp leaders will organize excursions in the surrounding areas, meetings with active local youth, barbecue in the holiday center "Yuzhnyi", russian traditional sauna - "banya", meeting with locals - nenets, their traditions, late at night it'll be possible to spend time in town and have fun with locals.

Other requirements: motivation letter required. People with experience in animation, musicians, artists etc. are highly welcome to apply.

Name: "Language festival" Russia, Cheboxary

This international language festival is organized by a non-government non-profit organization "Youth Esperanto Association of the Chuvash Republic". This year it will be the XVth Festival. The main aim of the Festival is to draw attention to the language diversity and emphasize its value.
The Chuvash Republic is situated 600km to the east from Moscow. It has two official languages: Russian and Chuvash. The Chuvash language is the 4th minority language in Russia according to the number of its speakers.
The Festival is an important and big event in the republic where about 1000 participants of different ages take part every year. For already 14 years a lot of people from different countries have been participating in the Festival preparation and organization.
The workcamp consists of 2 parts:
1st part - preparing the festival
2nd part - taking part in the festival
Work:
Helping in preparing the festival
Presenting the volunteers' culture and languages during the festival
Taking part in the festival activities
The work is done 8 hours a day, one day off per week, for the days off there are planned excursions to the city for sightseeing.
Accommodation and food: The volunteers will be hosted in host families and youth hostels. The food will be provided. No sleeping bags are needed.
Study: volunteers get knowledge and skills of organizing a language festival, presenting their culture, will get skills in intercultural communication. Volunteers will get the basic knowledge of the Russian language and the Russian culture, will get to know Russian people and Russian hospitality. As the workcamp is located in Chuvashia - a small local ethnicity to the east from Moscow - the volunteers will get a chance to learn the culture of this local ethnicity, its history and difference from the Russian Culture. Volunteers will get a perfect experience of interacting with different people with different backgrounds and working in a multicultural team creating excellent lifetime activities.
Location: the workcamp is situated in Russia, Cheboksary. The volunteers will need to fly (or arrive with any other transport: train, bus etc.) to Moscow and take a train from Moscow to Cheboksary. In Cheboksary the volunteers will be met by the Russian volunteers and move altogether to the workcamp.
Languages: Esperanto, English, French, German, Spanish, Italian, Russian etc.
Extra information: the volunteers are expected to have some experience of organizing activities, intercultural experience is very welcome. We also expect the volunteers to be open-minded, flexible, tolerant to differences in cultures, backgrounds, nationalities, races.
