Work: Your work will include different activities in a natural park like cultivation of a biotope, planting work, clearance of a forest, mowing meadows and removing bushes in the area surrounding Karow. This is a special task for nature lovers.
Location: Wooster Teerofen (near Guestrow)

1.3 Castle "Dreiluetzow" 16/08-29/08/10 ENVI / FEST 15vols(18-26)
Work: You will take care for the park behind the castle. The highlight of the workcamp will be the light feast on the last weekend. Here we will need your help in preparing and hosting the feast. If you play a musical instrument it would be great if you brought it with you! It is possible that your help will be needed to prepare and run another festival close to the castle.
Location: Dreiluetzow (near Schwerin)

Accommodation: The volunteers will be accommodated in a little building next to the castle.
1.5 Broellin 06/08-27/08/10 CONS/DIV 12vols(18-26)
Work: Every year at Schloss Broellin (Broellin castle) artists meet to run international art workshops, festivals and other events. The aim is to provide a meeting place for artists and the public. Artists present their work and exchange ideas with colleagues.
Your help will be needed to build living and working facilities outside. During the festival you will help in the kitchen.
Please be prepared for a little, isolated but very nice place in the middle of nowhere!

Accommodation: You will be accommodated in a big room inside the castle. Showers and toilets are available. Please be prepared for cold nights and rainy days.
1.6 Island “Ruegen” Summer 06/09-20/09/10 ARTS 15vols(18-26)
Work: Your work will include creating pieces of art (drawings, paintings, sculptures, stones etc.) specific to your country. You will use only natural material. The pieces will be shown in different institutions of the city e.g. in schools or kindergartens. While visiting the various institutions you will meet children from the city.
Please be prepared for this kind of work and bring information material about your country and if possible material with you.
It is possible that you will do maintenance works around the youth hostel.

1.8 Zarnekla (Vegetarian Camp) 21/06-09/07/10 ENVI 14vols(18-26)
Work: The main work will take place in a forest close to the village of Zarnekla, in Drosedow. Another task is to clean a pond and various environmental works are to be done.
You will learn more about the nature and protection of nature.
Location: Zarnekla (near Demmin)

Special requirements: This is a VEGETARIAN CAMP
Accommodation: You will sleep in one or two big rooms in the barn
1.9 Steinreich 19/07-07/08/10 ENVI 12vols(18-26)
Work: Please be also prepared to work in a nature reserve and in a “boulders park”. Your work will take place only outside.

2.3 Sachsenhausen 1 02/08-20/08/10 HIST / RENO 15vols(18-26)
During the first four days you will do the study part and excursions linked to the project in Berlin. Then you will travel to Sachsenhausen where you will work and study. Sachsenhausen was one of the earliest concentration camps in Germany, built in 1936. German people who were in opposition to Nazi policy, later also homosexuals, so-called asocials, criminals, and during the war especially people from occupied countries were imprisoned, forced to work and many of them were murdered. Between 1945-1950 a part of this area was used as a so-called Special Camp of the Soviet Secret Service. Now it is a place for studies and to commemorate the victims: the memorial site “Gedenkstaette and Museum Sachsenhausen” (“Memorial and Museum Sachsenhausen”).
Work part: Although the main task will be studies of history, manual work like gardening, maintenance work and cleaning-up of specific areas of the memorial are planned.
Study part: The study component will be the most important part of our project. Volunteers will learn a lot about the time of National Socialism, the Holocaust and the period after World War II, especially the Soviet camp Sachsenhausen until 1950. Talks with former inmates of both camps are planned, as well as guided tours in and around the memorial site Sachsenhausen, and excursions to different memorials and places of earlier German history. Volunteers will have the opportunity to work in the archives and in the library of the memorial site. Furthermore there will be several discussions with employees who perform guided tours and are involved in historical research.

2.5 Gut Kemlitz 16/08-27/08/10 RENO 10vols(18-26)
Work: Gut Kemlitz is a former farm and a part of it is still used as a farm with cows, horses and sheep. You will rearrange the playground and the petting zoo on the school farm. The estate is situated about 60 km South of Berlin and 30 km from the Spreewald nature reserve. It is surrounded by forests; a really quiet area for nature lovers.

Accommodation: You will live in the guest house with rooms for 2-4 persons.
2.6 Burg/Spreewald 12/08-03/09/10 AGRI/ENVI 10vols(18-26)
Work: You will work about 6 hours a day in the special agricultural area of a biosphere reserve.
Some gardening work is planned i.e. working and harvesting in the herb garden.
Location: Burg/Spreewald

Accommodation: You will live in a big bungalow at the shore of the lake “Byhleguhrer See”, about 7 km from Burg / Spreewald.
Special remarks: In this camp you have to be able to ride a bike!
2.7 Ravensbrueck 09/08-21/08/10 HIST / RENO 15vols(18-26)
Work: Volunteers are going to work near the area of the former concentration camp Ravensbrueck, which was established in 1939 by the SS and became the largest concentration camp for women during the time of fascism. During the 6 years until its liberation in April 1945 about 132.000 women and 20.000 men were brought to this camp to work. Thousands of them lost their lives here. Today this place is a memorial. The memorial is close to the small town Fuerstenberg/Havel, situated in the north of the federal state Brandenburg about 80 km north of Berlin.
This project will connect practical work and study with youth and eye-witness meetings. It is planned that the group will work on the area of the women concentration camp. There are many different tasks to be done: cleaning the area of wild growing vegetation, environmental work and investigation work.
Study part: For one or two days (depending on volunteers’ interest) there will be many possibilities to read about the history of the women concentration camp and about the background of fascism. Volunteers can use materials from the library and the archives in different languages. A main topic for the study part will be the special camp, where the participants work. As in the past years there will be time to talk with an eye-witness.

Work: In the forest an international youth centre called "Forstcamp Bogensee" will be created. The buildings were built in the thirties and were used in the former GDR too. The idea of this place is to make people appreciate nature, woodland and the environment. The focus of interest will be practical experience in ecological education. At the "Waldschule" (forest school) and in seminars young people work and study in the forest, in the project garden and in the yard.
The idea of the camp is to support this project.
The volunteers will collect firewood in the forest, remove non-native plants, care for the herb and project garden, participate in the biotope and species protection programme as well as support the renovation work at the house.

Special remarks: The island is very isolated and you have to be a real nature lover to participate in this project. You have to use the ferry every day and it stops running about 8 p.m.. There is no chance to visit Berlin during the week,
3.4 Maxim 28/06-17/07/10 RENO / FEST 15vols(18-26)
Work: You will work at the youth club "MAXIM". During the first week you will help to prepare and run the drumming festival “RAKATAK". Afterwards you will help to clean the site. The main task of this project will be designing, creating and renovating the outer walls of the building of the youth club. You will repair broken pieces of wood and strip surfaces of paint or paint surfaces. Furthermore you will repair the liner of the garden pond.

3.5 Berlin Krimiweg (trilateral) 09/08 – 19/08/10 RENO 12vols(18-26)
Work: The camp will take place in the “Projekt- und Begegnungsstaette”, which is the meeting and project centre of the Union of Young Volunteers (VJF). Your help is needed to make the “project and meeting centre” more attractive for all the visitors - children, teenagers, students, artists and different groups of adults. You will be asked to do repair work, renovation, cleaning and gardening work.

Special remarks: This camp is for volunteers from Alternative-V (Ukraine), Jeunesse&Reconstruction France and VJF only.
3.6 Berlin-Marzahn 06/09- 18/09/10 AGRI/CULT 15vols(18-26)
Work: You will work at a special farm, called „Tierhof Alt-Marzahn“. It is an agricultural museum located in Berlin, which still works using traditional methods of farm work (19th century). It is also a teaching institution. The volunteers are asked to help with the daily work at the farm: e.g. preparing the food for the animals (rabbits, chicken, sheep, horses, donkeys), cleaning the cages etc. Free-time activities could include excursions, but that is entirely up to the wishes of the group, you will certainly have the opportunity to go sightseeing in the city centre of Berlin.

4.1 Schloss Altenhausen 26/07 – 14/08/10 RENO 15vols(18-26)
Work: Your accommodation and work place will be the castle of Altenhausen, a beautiful building in the middle of nowhere. So, if you want to live and work in a quiet area you will be in the right place. The castle is situated in a small village with app. 450 inhabitants and surrounded by forests. Nowadays, the castle is used for groups, classes or families on holidays.
Your help is needed at the surroundings of the Altenhausen Castle. You will do manual and creative work to make the place more attractive. The tasks will be chosen according to your abilities and ideas. The project partner is very cooperative and open to your proposals, so you can give your fancy full scope!

Accommodation: You will live in rooms for up to 8 persons
4.2 Rackith 09/08-30/08/10 AGRI / CULT 10vols(18-26)
Work: You will work on an ecological farm which is also a social institution. An everyday task for some of the group will be helping small animal farming. Please note that they do not have horses! You have to be prepared to start your work at 7 a.m.! Furthermore you will do landscape work. A summer party will take place on the last weekend and your help will be needed to prepare and run it. In case of bad weather you will work inside of the former mill. There will be the possibility to talk with locals.

Special remarks: This workcamp is not suitable for persons suffering from allergies! You have to be able to ride a bike. The village is very isolated and you have to be a real nature lover to participate in this project.

5.1 Gut Gamig 12/07 - 30/07/10 AGRI / DISA 12vols(18-26)
Work: Gamig Castle is an estate consisting of a farm, chapel and small garden. Some of the Castle’s buildings date back as far as the 16th Century. Recently Gamig Castle was used as a centre for repairing machinery and as the headquarters of a local fruit farm. Nowadays it is used for the rehabilitation and treatment of mentally ill (manic depressive and schizophrenic) people. The centre provides treatments ranging from all day therapy to independent living and integration in the nearby village of Dohna. The patients work on a large organic farm, as well as in art and craft shops.
Volunteers are asked to do different gardening work and help in agricultural activities such as cherry harvesting and the cleaning and harvesting of vegetables and fruits. Sometimes you will work alongside the patients. If you are interested, we can have talks about methods and aims of the medical treatment of the centre with the doctor. Of course you will have the possibility to visit different workshops, where patients spend their working day.

5.5 KiEZ Querxenland 06/08-18/08/10 CONS 15vols(18-26)
Work: Your help is needed to finish the idea of a “class room in the nature”, You will build a willow hut including benches and the surrounding of the new established willow hut. Furthermore you are asked to do preparation works for a youth campsite. It is possible that you will do other works on the ground of the recreation centre.

6.1 Jena 02/08 - 15/08/10 ENVI / STUDY 12vols(18-26)
Work: The volunteers will help the local foresters and the environmental organisation "Berggesellschaften" with the conservation of historic forest structures (coppice/coppice with standards) and maintenance work in the Flora-Fauna Habitat.
Study part: Discussions with the foresters about possible methods of environmental protection in practice are possible as well as excursions to Weimar and into the mountains.
Special remarks: No smoking during the project!

6.2 Weisbach 21/07 - 11/08/10 RENO/ARCH 8vols(18-26)
Work: The volunteers are asked to help on the excavation ground of the fortress with building, painting walls or cleaning. Furthermore you will do palaeolithic excavations on the plateau of Doebritz above the elevation of Doebritz.
You will do punctured excavations (1m x 1m) and filter the finds.

6.3 Bad Lobenstein 10/08 – 24/08/10 ENVI 12vols(18-26)
Campsprache: Deutsch
Arbeit: Die Arbeit wird im ehemaligen Grenzstreifen der beiden deutschen Staaten stattfinden. Die wichtigste Aufgabe wird das Ausreissen von Fichten an Wegesraendern sein. Außerdem werdet ihr auf einer sumpfigen Wiese Gras maehen und anschließend entsorgen. Des Weiteren werdet ihr eine Infotafel über die Arbeiten der Workcamps erstellen. Dieses Projekt ist besonders fuer Naturliebhaber geeignet.

6.4 Buchenwald 08/08-21/08/10 HIST / RENO 20vols(18-26)
Work: The volunteers will work in the memorial of the former concentration camp of Buchenwald. We will do several jobs in the area of the memorial like cleaning, gardening and restoration in cooperation with the curators of the memorial and participate in an archaeological dig to find any artefacts relating to the prisoners. Our work will also include tending to the original remains of the former concentration camp in Buchenwald.
Study part: We will get to know more about the time of Fascism, covering the areas of racism and neo-fascism. The responsible pedagogical assistant of the memorial will show us the camp, step-by-step, through different excursions. Moreover we will see documentary movies, and those who would like may work with materials of the library or the archive.

Accommodation: you will sleep in the Youth Centre building, situated on the area of the former concentration camp in rooms for 5 persons. Sanitary facilities including showers are available.

Work: Your working place will be a park-like area along the river Saale. Here was the border between the two former German countries, nowadays the border between Thuringia and Bavaria. This area is part of the so called “Green Belt”. You will work on a meadow cutting grass with a scythe and removing the cut grass. Apart from this you will help cutting bushes. Other environmental tasks are possible. This is a project for nature lovers.

T2 Beeskow Junior (trilateral) 02/08-13/08/10 TEEN / RENO 12vols(16-17)
Work: The "Jugend-Oekohof Beeskow" is a farm for children and teenagers. Groups and families can go there during the holidays, for school trips etc. There is a wide variety of sporting and creative activities and many other activities, like baking bread, rallies, campfires, etc. Of course there are also animals like a pony, sheep, a donkey, bees...
The general aim of this project is to make the place more attractive. Different works are to be done to achieve this general goal. For example you will work in the museum of sheep-farming, which has just been opened. Other works in the garden might be possible.
Location: Beeskow (near Frankfurt/Oder and Berlin)

Special remarks: This is a Junior Camp for volunteers from Concordia France, Lunaria Italy and VJF only. Good English language skills are absolutely necessary!
